Panel Discussion: A Career in Media
Thinking about a career in media and want to know what’s most important for getting you there?  Hear from four local women who have been keeping you informed and entertained. Learn how they have crafted winning careers in the media – newspaper, magazine, television and radio. You will gain insight about working in broadcast, print and publishing and discover their personal suggestions for a successful career.
Panel participants:
Melanie Balog edits the new The South section of the Post and Courier. She joined the paper in 2005 as an assistant city editor and was named web editor in 2008 and digital editor in 2010. She holds a master's degree in professional writing from Illinois State University and has been an adjunct instructor at the College of Charleston.
Laura Lee is Program Director and morning show host at WCOO 105.5 The Bridge, a radio station that leans toward Alternative and is a strong supporter of local musicians. In her 13 year career, she has worked in NYC, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Tampa and Atlanta.
Darcy Shankland is Editor in Chief of Charleston, Charleston Home, and Charleston Weddings Magazines. She came to Charleston from Santa Barbara, CA in 2000 and has been touting and nurturing the growth of our unique Charleston style.  
Tessa Spencer a Charleston native, has had a 20+ year career in broadcasting. She is currently Co-anchor of ABC Channel 4’s Good Morning Charleston and Lowcountry Live and is also the weekday afternoon radio host on Apex Broadcasting's Star 99.7.
Our Panel Moderator is Jane Perdue, Principal/CEO Braithwaite Innovation Group.

Social Media Tips From the Pros!

Are you using social media to its full potential? You spend hours a week online with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but are you maximizing its use and enjoying it to the fullest? Whether you’re using social media for professional or personal reasons, join us for a half day in-depth session chock full of tips straight from the pros! You'll walk away feeling much more social media savvy. We’ll include topics such as: managing events on Facebook; how to best present yourself on LinkedIn if you’re looking for clients or a job; and what are hashtags and how to use them in Twitter and Facebook. Bring your laptops to follow along. We’ll also allow time for networking and getting your individual questions answered.
This is not a workshop for beginners. We will not be showing you how to set up an account.
